About Guy Parker-Rees

Guy Parker-Rees

When it all comes together, creating picture books is a magical process. I like to capture feelings in my work by using a fluid, bouncing line, vibrant colours and getting expressions and gestures just right. You may notice that I LOVE to draw animals. Animal characters have a universal quality that make their stories accessible to everyone.

I've collaborated with some wonderful writers of children's books. I'm proud of the fact that Giraffes Can't Dance, written by Giles Andreae, has become such an international bestseller with over eight million copies sold. Also, the fact that several of the books I've illustrated for Tony Mitton have won awards which were voted for by children is very pleasing!

The stories I wrote about Dylan, the stripy dog and his friends (including Dylan the Doctor) have been made into a major international animation series. Have a look at "Dylan's Playtime Adventures" on (CBeebies in UK and HBO Max in the US).

I can't wait for my latest book, Star Light, Star Bright to be out (autumn 2026). I feel that it captures the essence of why sharing picture books with young children is so essential—and such fun!

I love going to schools and book festivals to talk about how I make books and to whip up enthusiasm for reading.
